Specialty, a traditional pleasure

Togüí is a Colombian town located in the Province of Ricaurte in the Historic Department of Boyacá, according to the historian Joaquín Ortegón, author of the book “El idioma Chibcha”, the term togüí expresses “River of the Wife”.

This has been a little explored area, where there are extraordinary people and simple human beings, who even today are on horseback riding and perform fieldwork with tools that are more rudimentary than modern, building up the necessary factors that make produced products truly special.

And especially the Colombian COFFEE LA GUFANDA, which is a world power, cultivated manually and carrying out all the activities of its care in the same way. These tasks are carried out by peasants from the region who have lived and farmed the land all their lives, which strengthens the special affection and great attachment for their land, with true identity and belonging in rustic spaces with authentic peasants who are builders of peace.

Our coffee

The Villa Patricia farm is a family tradition where, since 1920, cultivations of gramineae such as cane have been developed in 2-year periods with rotation of semi-perennial crops such as corn, beans and yucca; after this management of prairies for animal consumption during periods of 2 to 3 years, turning again to the cane crops and by the year 1970 is begun the cultivation of coffee with 5 hectares.

In the year 2012 begins to cultivate in greater proportion reaching 24 hectares with variety Castillo seeded with a triangulation at 1.5×1.5 meters with a density of 5100 bushes per hectare interspersed with plantain banana vegetation with a density of 575 plants per hectare planted in triangular shape at 4.5×4.5 meters. In total there are 120,000 plants in production and 5 hectares without production.

During the year the farm has two coffee harvests, the first one takes place from April to May and the second from October to December.

The coffee has a drying tunnel type, where the solar rays penetrate perpendicularly reaching temperatures up to 37 degrees Celsius this makes the coffee develops an aroma and taste unlike our Togüi fields.

The farm has rainfall of 2000-2200 ml / year. This benefits the growth of native trees such as Galapo (Albizia Carbonaria), Yopo (Anadenanthera Peregrina), Balso (Ochroma pyramidale) and Guamo (Inga heteroptera willd) which are the shade of coffee.

Social and environmental commitment

Our work team is our most important capital. We work hand in hand with families from the region and migrant staff. They have been trained in coffee production, they have been given shelter, food and above all a home.

Our great contribution to the environment will always be one of our flags and for this, more than 10,000 native trees have been planted in the Villa Patricia farm, in order to reduce the carbon footprint and thus conserve the water sources and the native forest that surround the crops.
